A Concerned citizen of Malawi Bantu Saunders Jumah, has expressed his grave concern over Malawi Government and stakeholders silence over the ongoing unrest in Mozambique which have displaced thousands and others are fleeing into Malawi.

Jumah said the unrest in Mozambique is greatly impacting Malawi reminding Malawians that the country hosted Mozambican refugees at Luwani Camp in Mwanza district fleeing the country from a 16 –year civil war in that country which started in 1975.

The Mozambican conflicts are following disputed elections which the Smartmatic machine has done its damage, over 2000 Mozambicans have fled their country into Malawi and these people are lacking food and other items to support them in their daily life situations.

Areas of Traditional Authorities Mbenje, Mlolo and Tengani in Nsanje district are receiving Mozambican refugees fleeing their country every day and these people are putting pressure on the already available resources with the host communities.

Speaking through a Revolutionary voice, Jumah said since the post-election conflicts started in Mozambique following the disputed October, 2024 elections, he has not heard anything the Malawi Government and stakeholders speaking out of the Mozambican conflicts.

Jumah said time is now for former presidents Dr. Bakili Muluzi, Madam Dr. Joyce Banda and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to come together to meet President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to invite Daniel Chapo and Venancio Mondlane to come to Malawi for peace talks in the region.

He said this will also be the time to invite President Hakainde Hichilema (Zambia), Dr. Samir Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania) and former Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi to come to Malawi joining the host nation in finding the long lasting solution to end unrest in Mozambique.

“The Mozambican conflict is the conflict which is affecting Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi being neighboring countries, refugees are crossing borders fleeing the return to civil war in their country,” said Jumah.

On the issue of Lake Malawi which the Tanzanian government has claimed part of it, Jumah said Lake Malawi cannot be negotiated saying the whole lake belongs to Malawi, all the country’s previous presidents protected it wondering why today?

Jumah has appealed to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera not to keep quiet on this sensitive issue saying as from 1872 the lake was wholly for Malawi and even former President of Tanzania Benjamin Mkapa came to Malawi on the same where he admitted that Lake Malawi is for Malawi.
